Copywriters: Do NOT Give Your Life to Corporate America
I’m sitting in my living room this morning, drinking fresh-brewed coffee and letting the sun drench my face.
As I sit — eyes closed — I hear the rhythmic tick-tock of the clock on my coffee table.
This clock is square, with field-watch style numbers and a black second and minute hand.
I open my eyes. I feel the sun. I blink.
A minute passes and I barely even notice.
A minute goes by that I will never get back.
Today, a minute is fast.
Especially now.
Especially in the social media obsessed, drama news binging, dopamine addicted society we live in.
Personally, it scares the crap outta me!
I became a copywriter so I could reclaim as much time as possible. Time I’d otherwise spend working. Time I’d otherwise be using to make other people wealthy.
See … almost everyone I know has a job.
Most of my friends and family like their jobs.
But almost all of them complain about the same problem.
They don’t have any time to themselves. They work late hours. They are never free to do the things they want to do.
And even though I currently work a full-time job, I’m with a company that respects my time and the flexibility needed for the copywriting process.
I choose my own hours.
I take breaks when I need to.
And I’m almost always done working in the early afternoon.
But this can be a problem — especially when all of my friends have schedules that keep them working until 6 or 7 pm.
Sorry, but that lifestyle is not for me.
I don’t even care if I can make more money working more hours. Even just one minute is far too precious to me.
Thankfully, being a copywriter has delivered on its promise to free up my time ... and if you’re on the fence about going for it as a full-time career, well …
Consider this your sign.
The alternative will probably take up the longest 60 seconds of your life.
