The REAL reason I do double opt-in

Over the weekend, I received an email from fellow copywriter, subscriber, and all-around good human Arya Nanal:

“Heyy! David!

Unrelated, but wanted to ask you — I recommended your newsletter to a friend and sent him this link to subscribe: https://www.stealthiscopy.com/

He tried to subscribe twice but is not able to get the confirmation email.

How can I help him out??”

“That’s weird,” I thought. “I just reworked my entire landing page like three weeks ago. I checked everything!”

Annoyed with myself, I logged in to my MailerLite account to check my embed form.

My heart sank.

Arya was right.

I hadn’t flicked on the double opt-in button for the new sign up form.

🤦🏼‍♂️

And every new subscriber I’ve been getting for the last THREE WEEKS has been missing my double opt-in email.

(Honestly, it probably has something to do with Nega-David breaking into my office a few weeks back. The timing is sus.)

But it begs the question … Why is double opt-in such a big deal to me? And why do I make such a fuss over requiring it?

Well, the real reason can be found at the beginning of this very email.

Simply put, requiring double opt in helps me get the best subscribers.

As my list continues to grow, I’ve made a point of ONLY allowing two groups of people on to my list:

  1. Copywriters who are truly committed to the craft

  2. Business owners who understand the power of copywriting

But even more than that, I just want people on my list who I enjoy doing business with.

Arya is a prime example of an amazing subscriber, and is even an exclusive “test driver” for my first product I plan to launch later this year.

And if you’re reading this email now, it probably means you’re also a wonderful subscriber and solid fit for my list.

BUT.

If you’re reading this and you’re still on the fence about my daily emails … Well, I’m gonna ask that you kindly unsubscribe using the link in the footer.

No hard feelings.

But I work really hard to write these emails every day. And to me it’s a privilege to be a part of this list.

(Plus, my long-term plan is to start selling products and services through this email list. Guy’s gotta make a livin’!)

Annnyway.

That’s all I’ve got for you today.

If you’re here and you enjoy my daily emails, thank you.

If not, well, you need to sign up first. That way you can see the double opt-in in all its glory.
