The real reason why I email (almost) every day

Today’s a sick day.

Not as in “YOOOO DUDE THIS DAY IS RIGHTEOUSLY SICK WITH THE GNAR!”

(Despite how badly my West Coast soul wants to scream that from a mountaintop …)

No, what I mean by sick day is that … Well, I’m bit under the weather today.

Blegh blegh blah blah blah.

But it’s good. Because I want to share something with you.

The real reason that I’m emailing you today (despite being sick) is because if there’s anything I believe to be 100% true as a “creative” type, it’s this:

Consistency trumps proficiency.

Look … I’m a good copywriter.

And I have a constantly growing body of knowledge about copywriting that I love to share.

But I make no reservations about being the #1 best, or the wealthiest, or the most successful … at least by “mainstream” success metrics.

I’ve found a skill (and career) that I love, and I’m building it into a lifestyle that works for me and my goals.

Even now — while I’m still on the journey — it’s better than I ever could have imagined.

But the only reason I’m able to say this is because I show up (nearly) every day to practice my craft …

Whether it’s with this daily email.

Or my day job as a senior copywriter.

Or anything else related to copywriting.

Because in my opinion, the copywriter who can write — and improve that writing — every single day has the ability to be just as successful as the “ace” copywriter who only shows up once a month … or not at all.

All that to say: I don’t believe in natural “giftings.”

And I think if you want to be successful at any creative endeavor, it takes 2 things:

  1. A true affinity for the craft

  2. Showing up every day to work on that craft

For me, this email fulfills both.

And hopefully it inspires a similar perspective for you.
